Seoul to host international mayors' forum on IT
The city of Seoul said Wednesday (May 28) it will host an international mayors' forum in July to promote information technology exchanges and cooperation between cities around the world.
The World e-Government Mayors Forum, scheduled to be held July 7-9 in central Seoul, is to be sponsored by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations Governance Centre, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Korea Communications Commission, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The approximately 1,000 attendees will include mayors and government officials from 30 cities around the world. The e-governance Institute at Rutgers University of the U.S. and the Global e-Policy Institute of Korea's Sungkyunkwan University will also participate, officials said.
Among the keynote speakers will be Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of Laptop Per Child who is the founder of MT Media Laboratory, and Guido Bertucci, director of the public administration and development management at the United Nations Department of Economic & Social Affairs.
The main agenda for the discussions is to come up with ways to facilitate collaborations between e-governments as well as measures to narrow the digital divide, they said.
In addition, the World e-Government Challenge Award will be awarded to the city which has been an outstanding model for e-government, they said.
